Coming out of Hibernation

Hello all,
After my first semester at Messiah College and some sporadic road cycling with some friends here, I have determined that the time is ripe for a Messiah College Cycling Team! We are in the process right now of finding a faculty advisor as well as reviewing our application for club status. Please keep the club in your prayers, that we as students would be given the focus and drive to pursue this club. Stay tuned for more information.

  1. I'm an incoming student for this next 2011 school year starting in August. I've been road cycling for a few years now, and i work at Pedal pusher bicycle shop in harrisburg on a part time basis. I was just wondering what the bike crowd is like at messiah. Are there any really serious bikers there? Did you ever get a team started?

  2. Hi Bobby!
Thanks for your interest in the team! We are currently working through the long application process here at Messiah for club status. As for the crowd, we have only a few real serious cyclists here including myself. I have raced for 3 years and am the 2010 New York State Junior Time Trial Champion. A few others are mountain bikers. I should mention that to date, I am the only road cyclist with racing experience. However, a few others are excited and training for upcoming races. We have a ton of awesome faculty support including Dr. Scott Kieffer who is a professor of exercise physiology. He has offered all his professional testing and training equipment for our uses. Feel free to join the facebook page: Messiah Cycling. Stay in touch.
    God Bless,

  3. Hey, thanks for the response. I've never competed before, but I'm really just looking for people to ride with for fun. I'm also going to be bringing a ton of tools, my repair stand, and other bike stuffs with me along to Messiah, and I would be very happy to be your "mechanical support guy" for doing repairs on campus or at races you guys may compete in. I've gotten plenty of training in bike repair and I think I could led a useful hand to your team if you guys would have me. I joined your Fbook page, and I'll make sure to touch base with you at the beginning of the next school year sometime, if not sooner.

  4. Also, one more thing. I've been kind of worried about bringing my bike to campus. I'm currently riding a trek, but I'm looking to bring a Surly Crosscheck with me to school next year. Does Messiah allow students to keep bikes in their dorm rooms? or are there designated storage places on campus. I'm a bit afraid of someone ripping off my bikes that I've worked hard to be able to buy, and I'm just wondering what you guys do with your road bikes? Thanks!
